A ranking increased.

Proof is not a traffic chart. Proof is a decision that changed.

8 min read

Search Intelligence presents results by showing the decision faced, the evidence surfaced, the interpretation applied, the action taken and the value created, protected or clarified.

No performance theatre. No unsupported causality. No activity presented as an outcome.

The standard

Search Intelligence requires a higher proof standard.

Rankings, impressions, clicks, sessions and conversions can all be useful evidence. They do not, by themselves, establish why something changed, whether the market moved too, what leadership understood or what value can responsibly be claimed.

Where Governance is in scope, the proof record also needs ownership, decision, action and outcome traceability.

What those metrics do not show by themselves
Why the movement happened
Whether the wider market moved too
What leadership understood
Which risk became visible
Who owned the response
What decision was made
What changed after action
What value was created or protected

The SI proof standard, the SI proof chain

A credible outcome record follows the proof chain.

What counts as a result: a changed condition supported by enough evidence to explain the baseline, what was observed, why it mattered, what was decided, implemented, and what value can responsibly be supported, positive, negative, unchanged or Unknown.

01

Baseline condition

What was observed before the decision or intervention.

02

Evidence status and confidence

Observed, Inferred, Modelled, Validated or Unknown.

03

Interpretation

What the evidence means and what remains uncertain.

04

Materiality

Why the condition mattered to the organisation or customer.

05

Decision or response

What the organisation decided and who owned the response.

06

Action, monitoring or assurance scope

What was changed, observed or independently reviewed, by whom and within what period.

07

Changed condition or current observation

What the later evidence shows.

08

Contribution and limitations

What relationship between action and outcome can responsibly be supported, and what remains uncertain, unmeasured or outside the organisation's control.

09

Review and learning

What should happen next.

Outcome areas SI may evaluate

Six intelligence domains, each with its own evidence and record.

The term six intelligence domains is reserved for these outcome areas.

Organic Search Performance

Broader, more durable presence, not one isolated ranking.

Commercial Demand

More relevant customers reached or progressed through a viable journey.

Competitive Position

Decision space protected, reclaimed, displaced or established.

Trust & Customer Confidence

An important uncertainty about benefits, fees or eligibility was resolved.

Technical Integrity

Technical conditions no longer create material search or customer-journey exposure.

AI & Source Integrity

Representation became more accurate, consistent or reproducible after correction.

The eight records behind the result
1. Value Realisation Record
2. Loss-Avoidance Register
3. Commercial Outcome Baseline
4. Competitor Displacement Record
5. Organic Search Portfolio Scorecard
6. Revenue Contribution Record
7. Product and Service Improvement Record
8. Value Classification Record

Value recovered, a weakened or lost condition restored, is one of the classifications the Value Classification Record retains, alongside value created, protected, avoided and not realised.

Proof by engagement mode

ASSESS

Proof is a defensible baseline, interpretation and decision. A changed external condition is not required.

MONITOR

Proof is timely recognition of material movement, an evidence trail and a proportionate decision or non-decision.

GOVERN

Proof adds ownership, decision rights, implementation traceability, outcome review and residual exposure.

ASSURE

Proof is an independent conclusion against a defined scope, criteria and evidence standard, with limitations made explicit.

Every public proof asset must identify

classification evidence period date published and last reviewed organisation, sector or anonymisation status query, page, journey, market or system scope method and evidence sources decision and implementation owner outcome observed attribution or contribution boundary known limitations approval status
A page without this information is not a completed proof asset.

Public evidence classifications

Illustrative Method Demonstration

Shows how the SI method works. It does not claim a client outcome.

Anonymised Evidence Story

Uses real governed evidence without identifying the organisation. Permission, scope and limitations remain controlled.

Validated Client Case

The evidence, chronology, permissions, calculations and attribution boundaries have been reviewed and approved.

Public Outcome Record

A named, dated and reviewable record with sufficient evidence to support the public claim.

Only evidence assets that have passed the required scope, permission, evidence and limitation checks are shown publicly. Material still under review remains unpublished.

Client-reference principle

A client reference, testimonial or evidence conversation operates through a controlled process establishing permission, what may be discussed, confidentiality boundaries and when the permission expires. A reference conversation does not replace the retained evidence pack.

What is published, and what is not

A method demonstration is not a client claim.

What is published here is the standard, the control set and a clearly labelled method demonstration: From Finding to Governed Action, the illustrative applied proof demonstration and the populated illustrative Executive Scoreboard and control records.

Conditional evidence stories stay unpublished until their scope, period, methodology, attribution, permission and limitations have passed the Results and Proof controls. It must not be described as a client result.

The correct response to an incomplete proof asset is not stronger promotional language. It is to keep the boundary visible.

A governed observation model helps distinguish

Broad market movement from a business-specific weakness
Temporary volatility from structural change
Competitor noise from sustained momentum
A technical cause from a content or authority issue
A historical result from an emerging risk

Outcome proof domains

A governed result may contribute evidence across these domains.

executive decision quality material exposure reduction action and blocker closure Market Presence Trust and Reputation Demand and Revenue Contribution Competitive Displacement Authority technical resilience organisational capability Value Realisation
Not every engagement will create proof across every domain.
The boundary

What Search Intelligence will not do.

Present activity as an outcome
Present a forecast or model as realised value
Infer customer psychology from one click or ranking movement
Claim sole credit for specialist implementation
Hide failed, neutral or inconclusive outcomes
Publish a proof story while its evidence remains subject to pre-publication verification
The proof record

Each publishable case should answer eleven questions.

Some of the most valuable Search Intelligence work involves avoided loss, earlier recognition or improved decision quality. These outcomes are easy to overstate if the evidence standard is weak.

Before publishing a case, Search Intelligence retains the measurement period, the scope, the evidence sources, the comparison method, the interpretation record, the decision and action log, the outcome evidence, the attribution limitations and the permission required for publication.

That discipline makes the proof more credible, not less impressive.
01What decision did the organisation face?
02What evidence was available?
03What did the evidence mean?
04How confident was the interpretation?
05Why was the issue material?
06Who owned the response?
07What decision was made?
08What action followed?
09What changed?
10What value was created, protected or clarified?
11What cannot reasonably be attributed to Search Intelligence alone?

Start by establishing the baseline.

A Diagnostic Intelligence Assessment creates the first evidence set: what the organisation can see, what may be excluded, where customer confidence is exposed, where ownership is unclear, which signals are strong enough to act on and what should be governed first.

A Diagnostic Intelligence Assessment is one way to establish the first evidence baseline. Monitoring or Assurance may also begin from an accepted existing baseline where the evidence is sufficient. See how organisations engage SI.

Applied proof available today

Two resources provide a populated, clearly labelled method demonstration showing how a condition moves from business question to value classification. The example is fictional and must not be described as a client result.
