The organisation may simply be absent, unclear or difficult to use.
Commercial Intent indicates how strongly a search, encounter or behaviour suggests movement towards a consequential choice. Search Intelligence examines where valuable demand appears, how confidence develops and where demand is captured, delayed, diverted or lost.
The formal definition
Commercial Intent is the degree to which a search, encounter or behaviour indicates movement towards a commercially consequential choice.
A phrase may suggest intent. It does not prove the decision state.
The same phrase may reflect different needs depending on customer, sector, journey stage, prior knowledge, urgency, location, complexity, risk, device and context.
Intent across the progression
Commercial Intent can be visible before conversion readiness.
High Commercial Intent
Exists where evidence indicates proximity to meaningful action: requesting a quote, comparing providers, opening an account, evaluating fees, applying for credit, booking a consultation, checking availability, switching, purchasing, renewing.
Demand Capture
Demand Capture does not prove efficiency or profitability.
Where valuable demand can be lost
Five ordinary-looking conditions that quietly cost the sale.
The organisation appears too weakly
Present, but the competitor owns more first-page space or stronger third-party evidence.
The proposition is unclear
Customers cannot quickly understand the product, fees, benefits or reason to choose.
Trust is incomplete
Reviews, reputation or authoritative sources do not provide enough reassurance.
The journey fails
The quote, form, application or purchase pathway is slow, broken or difficult to use.
The intent is misread
The organisation publishes for traffic rather than the decision the customer is trying to make.
Demand Leakage
Demand Leakage is the loss, diversion, delay or failure to capture commercially relevant demand because confidence, evidence, access, experience or competitive position is inadequate.
Visibility Failure
The organisation is absent from a commercially important environment.
Trust Failure
The customer cannot verify credibility, claims, fit or reputation.
Influence Failure
A competitor provides clearer evidence.
Technical Failure
The customer cannot reliably access or complete the journey.
Experience Failure
The next action feels unsafe or difficult.
Representation Failure
AI, publishers or outdated sources create the wrong understanding.
The most expensive demand may be the demand one organisation creates and another captures.
Not every non-conversion is Demand Leakage. A plausible and material loss pathway must be established.
Commercial Intent is not automatically revenue, it is proximity to a consequential choice. Do not measure demand only after it enters the pipeline.
What Search Intelligence examines
What Search Governance determines
Visibility across high-value search portfolios, product-page clarity, progression into quote, application or purchase journeys, lead relevance and Sales readiness, and prioritisation of the products and journeys with the strongest commercial consequence.
Sales and Business Development hear the questions that delay the sale, the proof prospects request and the trust objections that arise, evidence SI can bring into the wider customer-decision environment without replacing Sales attribution.

See where valuable demand is moving before it becomes a visible outcome.
Financial estimates must show whether they are observed, inferred, modelled, validated or unknown.
